User Experience Design and Research

Backboard

Nothing but Net(Work)

My UX group and I were posed with a problem. The problem being that the NYC pickup basketball community did not have an intuitive and functional form of communication and organization. Our objective as a research team was to better understand our users & design an app based solution to their problems.

Through multiple weeks of research, we devised a user needs statement, which states as...

"Pick-up Basketball players in New York need a quick and compact method of organizing & finding games in order to reduce the stress of planning while maximizing play time"

UX Design

The UX Design process began with the ideation stage. In the ideation stage I used the "crazy 8s" brainstorming method, storyboarding, and created a user scenario.

From the UX research stage we found that potential users need adequate form of communication with other local pick up basketball players. It was decided that the team would strive to make an app.

Prototype

Low Fidelity Prototype

A low fidelity prototype of an app was developed. The prototype was built in Figma using the iPhone 11 Pro frame. The low fidelity was not programmed and used flow arrows to show the movement users would see while using the app.

High Fidelity Prototype

In the high fidelity prototype, additional menus and screens were added. Profiles for personas, and confirmation pages are some of the few things added.

The biggest change was on the main menu. "Start A Game" was added in. This feature was added after usability testing and was added because users wanted to be able to start their own game if current game offers did not work with individual schedules.
